Dan learned how to paddle a canoe and kayak before he learned how to ride a bike. He grew up on the shores of the Hudson and began studying the river while a student at the Dutchess Academy of Environmental Studies based out of the Norrie Point Environmental Center in Staatsburg, NY.
He went on to earn degrees in environmental studies and biology, conducted river, marine and other life science research, and eventually became a full time environmental and life science educator, a pursuit now spanning more than 20 years.
