HVH2O was proud to work with the wonderful organization New Era Creative Space as part of their Nature Connection Summer Camp. This program is designed to foster students’ care for the well-being of each other and the environment, and to encourage an understanding and respect for the interconnectedness of all living things.
The activities involved testing water quality and water conditions on the Hudson River. They observed tidal and wind conditions, as well as testing for salinity, PH, temperature and turbidity. River seining was also a fun experience for the campers where they were literally able to dip their toes into the Hudson. This activity involved pulling a seine net through the river and depositing the caught fish within a fish tank for observation and identification.
After all that learning, is their any better way to cool off and enjoy the Hudson other than with a leisurely paddle along the waterfront? We think not. After a short safety instruction, the campers were off and standing on their own paddlebaords amidst the windy and sometimes difficult conditions. They were champs!
We look forward to working with NECS again in the Summer 2020 season.
