HVH2O is planning to be out at the Peekskill Waterfront every weekend this summer, starting June 26th . Every Saturday and Sunday we plan to have kayaks and paddleboards for rent and offer lessons. The only date we’re not 100% sure about is July 4 — it’s hard to get volunteers for that date!
If you just want to rent a kayak or paddleboard, perfect. We have reasonable rental fees. If you rent a kayak, we suggest you dress in clothes that might get wet. If you rent a paddleboard, falls are normal. Definitely dress in a bathing suit or water-appropriate clothes. Simple shoes like sneakers or rubber sandals are perfect. Bring a bottle of water too, and an energy bar if you wish. Rates are $20 for 1 hour.
If you want to schedule a lesson, you can do so at the waterfront or contact us at info@hvh2o.org. We will have two kayak instructors on staff this summer and one paddleboard instructor. All are certified by the American Canoe Association. If you want a kayak lesson, we should be able to provide one pretty readily as long as boats are available. If you want a paddleboard lesson, contact us first to make sure our instructor is there. Lesson rates are $30 for a 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. These are suitable for anyone who wants to try the sport. You don’t need to know how to swim to get a lesson, but if you can’t, let our instructors know so we can accommodate you.
Safety is a very important to us at HVH2O. Because we want to make sure nothing happens during your time with us, we insist on full safety gear. All paddlers must wear a life vest or PFD (Personal Flotation Device). In addition, standup paddlers must wear an ankle leash attaching them to their boards. Since falls are fairly common on paddleboards, this additional protection keeps your board close by.
